  • Anytime! We work with students at all stages — from early topic exploration to mid-program writing blocks to final defense prep. It’s never too early or too late to seek support.

  • Both! ScholarRoots offers services that include detailed written feedback (with tracked changes and commentary) as well as live coaching sessions. We tailor support to meet your needs.

  • We work with a wide range of social work and practitioner-based topics, especially around equity, justice, clinical practice, policy, leadership, and community engagement. If you’re working on something niche or emerging, reach out — we love helping scholars break new ground.

  • Scheduling is done to best support working professionals and busy students — this includes evenings, weekends, and select daytime slots. We’ll work together to find times that fit your life and help you stay on track without adding stress. Once you reach out, we can set up a schedule that works for you.

  • No — and we believe in being ethical and transparent about that. ScholarRoots offers coaching, mentorship, and feedback to strengthen your skills, but all academic outcomes are determined by your institution.

  • Our prices reflect the depth of experience we bring: over a decade of higher education experience (teaching and student affairs), leadership, and mentorship, including chairing close to 40 DSW committees, leading programs, and earning national awards. ScholarRoots offers high-level, specialized support — not generic coaching. That said, we’re happy to discuss payment plans or package options when possible.

  • To avoid conflicts of interest, Dr. Davis will not work with students from institutions or programs where he holds a faculty role. However, we’re happy to connect you with another trusted ScholarRoots consultant who can assist you.

  • Absolutely. ScholarRoots provides tailored mentorship for DSW and doctoral-level instructors, including advising strategies, course design, and creating student-centered learning environments.

  • While our primary focus is doctoral success, we can advise on faculty job searches, academic writing, and practitioner-scholar roles. Let’s talk about your next chapter!
